NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
August 28, 2006 - -- This year COBA was represented well on the National stage. Including the Hamilton Cobra's we had three teams representing Ontario at the National Championships. Two winning Gold and the third winning the Bronze.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! to the Mississauga Southwest Major Midget Twins on winning the covetted National Title in PEI on the weekend. The Twins went undefeated in the tournament to capture the Gold bringing the Nationl Title back to COBA following up Bramptons win last year.
Also winning the National title at Bantam was the Hamilton Cobra's who played in the COBA loop this year. Congratulations guys and send us a picture.
Also congratulations to the Mississauga North Peewee Tigers on winning the Bronze at the Peewee Nationals in Victoria. We hope to have a team picture soon.
BANTAM ALL STARS WIN BRONZE AT 2006 SUMMER GAMES
The 2006 Bantam All-Stars Put on a stellar performance at the 2006 Ontario Summer Games. They were the only team to go undefeated in round robin play, beating the Ottawa Canadians in the games opener 11-3, and finishing the opening day with a 5-3 victory over Team Niagara.
At the start of day 2 the team faced Western Ontario and Dylan Perego and Caleb Campbell of the Waterdown Wolves, combined for a 5 inning no hitter mercy, winning 15-0. Dylan Perego pitched 3 perfect innings. In the next game the team faced the eventual game champions, Windsor Riverside, and perservered winning 5-4,with yet again another strong pitching performance from Jasvir(Jesse) Rakkar from the Brampton Royals and Greg Katayama of the Mississauga North Tigers. The third game of the day came against Eastern Ontario. The team jumped out to an early lead scoring 2 in the first and 4 in the third that combined with another stellar pitching performance from strater Johnathan Sollaza of the Mississauga Majors was all the team neede to outlast Eastern Ontario winning 10-8.
Day 3 day of Champions the team met Inter-County in th Semi in what would prove to be the best game of the games. Jasvir Rakker pitched a complete game 4 hitter in a pitching dual with a strong lefty from ICBA. The final score was 2-1 with the winning run being scored on an error. The teams only run was scored by Ricky Buehler of the Mississauga Southwest Twins in the first inning. It was a heart breaking loss but the team rebounded for the Bronze Medal game.
In the Bronze medal game the team faced the Division 1 champions York Simco and were clearly the better team. Johnathan Solazzo and Michael Vanderlaan of the Oakville A's pitched flawlessly as the team combined for 20 runs for a 20-4 mercy through 5 innings to capture the bronze medal.
