A 2007 SOBA PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT

Just to provide some information on the hosting of an SOBA Provincials tournament that may assist you in reaching a decision.

- the date of the 2007 SOBA Provincials is the weekend of August 24, 25, 26, 2007 for Midget and Junior, August 31 to September 3, 2007 for Rookie Ball, Tyke, Peewee and Bantam.

- each division is a maximum of 12 teams, and a minimum of 8 teams.

- standard rules of play and team entry are those approved by SOBA.

- SOBA handles the entry process, development of the games scheduling, notification to participating teams etc.

- SOBA pays for the tournament umpires at the specified SOBA rate for the division level being hosted.
(Rookie to Peewee $20.00, Bantam $30.00, Midget $35.00 and Junior $40.00 were 2006 rates)

- SOBA provides funds to the hosting association towards a diamond maintenance crew for the tournament.
($75.00 for each diamond - max $150.00)

- SOBA provides the following Awards to the participating teams (SOBA badge and participation medallions to Rookie Ball to Peewee levels and SOBA key chains for Bantam and higher levels); the Champion team get individual trophies, rings and a team trophy for Rookie Ball to Peewee and for Bantam and up championship rings and a team trophy; the Finalist teams receive individual trophies in the tournament. In addition there are 3 awards given at the championship game to the best offensive player, best defensive player and most sportsman like player of the game.

- SOBA pays an $50.00 honorarium fee to the host Association's designated umpire-in-chief for the tournament to recruit & schedule all the required umpires for the tournament.

- SOBA pays up to a maximum $200 towards any user fee diamond costs incurred by the host organization.

- SOBA provides an Overall Tournament Convenor to assist the Apark/diamond conveners@ provided by the host organization.

- the SOBA tournament can be run over the designated weekend assuming there are no major delays caused by weather or other unforeseen matters. (two regulation lighted diamonds are required for each 12 team division).

What is expected of the Host Association in regard to the SOBA Provincials:

- the host association is provided with a direct entry for its chosen Select Level league team (the host team must pay the tournament entry fee).

- to provide 2 quality lighted diamonds of a suitable size to accommodate the playing division selected.

- provide a >site/diamond convenor= for each diamond location to oversee the smooth running of the SOBA Provincial tournament.

- designate an umpire-in-chief who will recruit, schedule & oversee the proper officiating of all scheduled SOBA Provincial tournament games.

- ensure that the diamonds are properly lined, raked and bases installed to tournament standards for entire tournament.

SOBA will generally approve any endeavor to develop local sponsorships or other local fund raising activities of the local association as long as such does not detract from this annual SOBA Provincial Tournament. There are a number of opportunities for the local association to raise funds locally in its hosting of the tournament.

If you are interested in hosting a division level we would be glad to discuss it with your organization.
